Cochrane Reviews: a breakdown of tasks done by Review Groups and the Central Editorial Service

It is important to Cochrane’s future that our editorial processes are independent of review development. This is why review development and editorial functions will be completely separated. From the end of March 2024, all the purely editorial parts of the process will be done by the Central Editorial Service.

As members of a Cochrane Review Group or Thematic Group, you still have a crucial role to play in Cochrane’s future, especially in the delivery of high-quality Cochrane reviews. Here, we have outlined tasks you can continue to do, and also those tasks that will eventually be managed by the Central Editorial Service.

Reporting standards: changes to help create practical and sustainable Cochrane Reviews

Cochrane is dedicated to improving the maintenance of our reviews and enhancing access to clear, useful health information. As part of this, Cochrane will be changing the reporting guidance that our authors use. We will be using publishing standard guidelines, such as the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) for systematic reviews of interventions.
