Community Engagement Report: Engaging the community in the
future of Cochrane

The Future of Evidence synthesis project represented a way for Cochrane to address five key challenges, including:

  • Funding

  • Competition

  • Organic growth of the organization leading to pockets of inefficiency

  • Need for agility moving forward

  • Need for affordable products and a sustainable organisation.

We knew the solutions to these challenges would come from within the organization and from the wider Cochrane community itself. With this in mind we embarked on a comprehensive engagement program - offering Cochrane contributors everywhere the opportunity to learn about and feedback on options and plans, and to suggest alternative models.

Feedback and consultation mechanisms included

A series of seven Cochrane webinars and workshops

  • Future of evidence synthesis introduction x 2

  • Meeting global health and care challenges

  • Structure, funding and accountability

  • People and expertise

  • Collaboration

  • Central Editorial Service and publishing.

The workshops were well attended by the community.

Future Cochrane webinars

A key part of our community engagement included a series of webinars which began in April 2022 and are ongoing. The webinars allowed members of the community to ask questions, share their thoughts and ideas and discuss key aspects of the change.
