Application Portal:
Evidence Synthesis Unit Pilots
In October, 2023 current Cochrane members were invited to apply to set up a small number of Cochrane Evidence Synthesis Unit. Our aim is that each Unit will act as a dedicated evidence development team, with the expertise to create high-quality evidence syntheses and ensure that users and stakeholders get the information they need when they need it. In implementing this first cohort of Units, we aim to test how this component of the new model for producing Cochrane evidence syntheses will work in practice.
Applications closed in December 2023, but information about the application process is still available below.
Application guidance:
Applications were open to any current Cochrane members, including (but not limited to) members of Cochrane Review Groups, Fields/Networks, Geographic Groups and Methods Groups. Applications based on collaboration between existing Cochrane groups were particularly welcomed.
How to apply:
Useful information:
Who will lead an Evidence Synthesis Unit?
An Evidence Synthesis Unit will be overseen by a Cochrane evidence synthesis expert, whose primary role will be to identify funding opportunities and evidence synthesis commissions and manage a team of professionals committed to delivering high level outputs.
Who is eligible to apply?
We welcome applications from all Cochrane members, and will consider collaborating groups of any size, composition, or location, provided they can meet the basic requirements outlined in the application guidance. An independent panel led by the Editor in Chief will evaluate the applications, with pilot Units expected to be announced by March 2024.
How will Evidence Synthesis Units fit into the wider Cochrane structure?
Evidence Synthesis Units will closely work with Thematic Groups and Geographic Groups, keeping Cochrane abreast of emerging priorities. While their main focus will be to generate high-quality evidence for the Cochrane Library, these units will also help to champion methods and adopt innovations from Cochrane’s Methods Groups. You can read more about Cochrane’s new structure here.
What about funding?
Cochrane Evidence Synthesis Units will not be centrally funded; however Cochrane’s newly established fundraising team will work with the pilot Units to identify suitable funding calls. It is not essential for applicants to have funding in place to fully support their activities in advance, but those with existing relationships with funders and experience securing evidence synthesis contracts are encouraged to apply.
