Project: Prospective Author Journey

As Cochrane’s model for producing evidence evolves, it is important to offer a central entry point for authors wishing to work with Cochrane. All authors are welcome to submit proposals for new and updated Cochrane Reviews. Our volunteer topic experts assess proposals for priority and relevance. Enable authors wishing to work with Cochrane to submit proposals for new or updated reviews to our central Editorial Manager site and get the go-ahead to start work.

This project:

• Enables authors to submit proposals for new or updated reviews to our central Editorial Manager site and get the go-ahead to start work.

• Broadens opportunities for Cochrane Groups to propose titles and create Cochrane content

• Supports the evidence synthesis development pipeline

• Improves the author experience to ensure Cochrane recruits new author teams and retains existing expert authors.

Milestones & timeline

• Proposals for new reviews have been managed centrally since June 2022.

• February 2023: improvements to proposal management including a more detailed proposal form for new reviews and Evidence Pipeline team screening PICO of proposed reviews.

• April 2023: Good practice resources for Cochrane authors improved to support all authors developing protocols and reviews.

• May 2023: new proposal form for updated reviews launched.

• Ongoing: evaluation of options for direct submissions of completed protocols and reviews to Cochrane Central Editorial Service.
