Introducing Cochrane’s newest Thematic Groups

We are pleased to announce the next set of Cochrane’s new Thematic Groups. These are collaborative, topic-specific research groups, designed to ensure that Cochrane’s content and methods experts can play a leading role in our new production model.

Five new Thematic Groups

After a robust selection process, we can now introduce five new Thematic Groups, built on collaborations and led by Cochrane experts from around the world:

  • Acute and Emergency Care - led by Harald Herkner (Cochrane Denmark)

  • Functioning Disability and Rehabilitation - led by Stefano Negrini (University La Statale, Italy)

  • Maternal Newborn Child Health - led by Jeanne-Marie Guise (Harvard, USA)

  • Musculoskeletal Health and Pain - led by Rachelle Buchbinder (Monash University, Australia)

  • Planetary Health - led by Denise Thomson (University of Alberta, Canada), Miranda Cumpston (Monash University, Australia) and Maria-Inti Metzendorf (Heinrich-Heine-University, Germany)

These Thematic Groups will support volunteer author teams in developing high-impact evidence syntheses tailored to specific health and wellbeing areas. They are well placed to play a pivotal role in several key areas, including:

  • Planning and prioritising research: informed by expert knowledge and lived experiences

  • Assisting the Central Editorial Service: with expert editors and peer reviewers

  • Collaborating with Evidence Syntheses Units: to create clinically relevant and accessible evidence

  • Disseminating Cochrane evidence: fostering strategic partnerships and boosting funding opportunities in their own areas.

Watch this space for more information on our new Thematic Groups and their plans and keep an eye on our Future Cochrane site for the latest on the changes Cochrane is making.
